1 box devils food cake mix
3 tblsp. Cocoa powder
1 1/3 cups buttermilk
½ cup oil
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
Prep ganache.
¾ cup heavy cream
8 oz. semi sweet chocolate
1 tblsp. Peppermint schnapps
Bring cream to a boil.  Pour over chocolate and stir until the chocolate is melted and mixed together.  Add schnapps.
Place cake mix, cocoa powder buttermilk, eggs and vanilla in a bowl.  Beat 1 minute on low and 2 minutes on medium.  Pour into 2  nine inch prepared cake pans.  Bake at 350f for 28 to 30 minutes.  Cool for 10 minutes and remove from pan.  Let cool for 30 minutes longer.
Butter cream frosting.
½ stick butter
1/4 cup crushed peppermint sticks
1 ½ cups  confectioner sugar
1 tablespoon milk
½ tblsp. Peppermint schnapps or ½ tsp. peppermint extract
Beat butter until fluffy.  Add remaining ingredients and beat well.
Use the frosting to frost middle of cake.
Frost top and sides with ganache.
