Family-Favorite Caramelized Onions

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 jars (15 ounces each) whole onions, drained

Method:

1In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter; stir in brown sugar, lemon juice and pepper. Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved, 1 to 2 minutes. Add onions. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook until deep golden brown, 45 to 50 minutes, stirring occasionally.

This recipe was passed down to me by my mother-in-law. After a few tweaks, the onions are better than ever and, to my husband's disappointment, there are rarely any leftovers. They can easily be made ahead and reheated.
